- KNOW GOD
- NEXT STEPS
The prelude to all of man’s dream and defiance–equal parts rolling the dice and rolling up our sleeves. What if built the Parthenon and the pyramids, penned I Have a Dream and I’ve Been to the Mountaintop, developed penicillin, and discovered Pluto.
The Golden Spike was one of those what ifs. What if we traced a line across the United States by railroad, connecting people and places like never before? In 1869, we had our answer. On a May morning, train engines from Iowa and California touched noses in the high desert of Utah, the confluence of the Union Pacific and the Central Pacific. The Golden Spike was the final nail driven into the tracks that day, ceremonially displaying the power of the moment, when east and west met in the middle.
Today, with this image in our eyes, we are asking our own questions of the future. What if hundreds of thousands of outreach dollars went to supporting people on the front lines of the war for good in our communities? What if we expanded our capacity to reach people through permanent buildings?
It would require us to do what those Americans did so many years ago: meet in the middle. To come together, despite the distance between us, believing that we have more in common than we will ever realize because of Jesus. His hands and feet, pinned to a cross by hammer and nails, is where our east and west meet: where we find our desire to reach for more.
The beauty in all of this is, these what ifs don’t need to wait until tomorrow. They can start with us. Here. Now. Together.
So, you in? Come dream with us.
